‘J-term’ brings creative HS curriculum

Alta-Aurelia High School Principal Tom Ryherd saw an opportunity to use some creative curriculum when semester finals concluded before winter break.

Ryherd commented on the purpose of the school’s J-Term, which ran from Jan. 2-5. It concluded with a student variety show at the Roxy Theater Jan. 5.

“The purpose of this is to expose kids to some different content related learning that teachers may not have the opportunity to cover during regular class time. It also gives teachers the opportunity to expose kids to content or activities that may be high interest areas or maybe hobbies that have educational value to our students. It also provides opportunities for teachers to build and strengthen relationships with kids in a different type of educational setting. It is good to see what the different teachers are doing that some may not necessarily think would be of interest to them,” said Ryherd.

Freshman Alex DeRoos was part of a small group of students who did work for citizens in the Alta community.
