Alta allocates $50,000 for ash tree removal

Dead ash trees in Alta scheduled to be removed along Prospect and Johnson Streets looking south. City officials have set aside extra money for the work.

Alta Street Supt. Brad Pedersen describes the yearslong campaign to remove nearly 350 infested ash trees in Alta as a losing battle against time.
Pedersen said a group of volunteers and his department, which was at full strength, removed 50 trees this summer at a cost of $20,000.
There are around 300 trees to go, all of which are rapidly deteriorating, Pedersen said. Most of them don’t have any leaves anymore and their bark is peeling.
