Alta-Aurelia volleyball thwarts South Central Calhoun

Chloe Elston and Kiersten Ryherd go up for a block against South Central Calhoun.

Shea Lockin went 18-for-19 in hitting with 18 kills and was 13-for-14 in serving with three aces to help lead Alta-Aurelia to a Twin Lakes Conference win over South Central Calhoun in three sets last Thursday at Alta.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-12, 26-24.

Jenna Nielsen followed Lockin in hitting by going 15-for-17 with 10 kills. Maggie Bloom was 14-for-18 with four kills and Sierra Hill 10-for-14 with four kills.

Chloe Elston recorded 30 set assists. Jessica Larson led the team in digs with 12. Lucy Gunkelmann added eight, and Nielsen and Bloom five apiece.

Hill led the serving effort by going 9-for-9. Elston was 15-for-16 with four aces, Nielsen 18-for-20 with five aces and Bloom 11-for-13 with two aces.

“We played really solid in all facets of the game,” Alta-Aurelia coach Jeannie Henningsen said. “We gelled offensively and our serving kept them out of system, which allowed us to keep our offense going. We fought back in game three when we were down 24-23 for a hard-fought win.

“Shea was tough at the net and they couldn’t stop her,” Henningsen added. “Jenna’s serving was spot on and gave us a lot of momentum. Jess was solid again in the back row, and Sierra did some nice things at the net. It was a good win on their senior night.”
