A-AMS ‘tribe’ helps homeless with mats

For 25 minutes each school day, Alta-Aurelia (Aurelia) Middle School students work on activities that reach beyond the school in “Tribe Time” groups.

This school year, one portion of the “Tribe Time” effort assists Siouxland’s homeless by providing mats.

“In our Second Step Guidance program, the students learn that compassion is empathy in action. I had read, ‘so many people, so many needs, we can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.’ Why not find projects the students can do to make them more aware of the importance of helping others through acts of kindness?” asked Alta-Aurelia Middle School counselor Barb Huseman.
