Blank Park Zoo staff members Kristina Campbell and Megan Bissen kicked off the “Libraries Rock” summer reading program June 4 at Alta Community Library with the help of some Des Moines zoo animals. One was an insect a few inches long and another a boa constrictor snake, weighing more than 40 pounds and 11 feet long.

“Jersey is 45 pounds of pure muscle,” said Campbell. The animal was a rescue before it found a home at Blank Park Zoo.
