Chief gives educators ‘active shooter’ options

Aurelia Police Chief Brian Flikeid presented teachers with the latest strategies in what do if an active shooter situation occurs at the Alta-Aurelia Middle School May 29 as part of the end-of-the-school year staff professional development.

Teachers learned about active shooter misconceptions such as: it happens out-of-the-blue; you never saw it coming; he just snapped; most situations will resolve themselves if given a cooling off period and violence is random, spontaneous and unpredictable.
