Commitment led Penton to success

Guest speaker Joel Penton mentioned to the audience of all Alta-Aurelia students that seventh grade was of particular importance to him, a youngster from northwest Ohio.

“It was in seventh grade that I made a commitment to be the best football player that I could be,” said Penton, a professional motivational speaker and author.

Penton reached the pinnacle of college football success one day at the end of the 2002 season when his Ohio State University (OSU) team outlasted Miami University 31-28 in double overtime to win the title. Penton was also part of three Big Ten championship football teams and was all-academic four times in college. Penton seemed sad when asked if there were any Buckeyes fans in the audience but glad to find out no Michigan fans were.
