JYD places champions

The Junk Yard Dogs (JYD) competed in the second annual Schaller youth wrestling tournament Jan. 14.

The Junk Yard Dogs entered two teams. This year, Schaller offered an all-girl division and also gave the option for girls to wrestle in both boys’ and girls’ brackets.

Two of the JYD girls competed in both brackets. Ludim Ferrusca and Paytyn Brenner wrestled in six matches each. When their day of wrestling was finished, both girls were champions in both the boys’ and girls’ division.

"All in all, our team wrestled very well, and I am very proud of our team," said coach Bob Mikos. "We are in the thick of our season and have several wrestlers working hard for districts and a run at state."

Districts will be held in Spencer the first weekend in March.
