Next day arrives for Aurelia after FCA chemical leak

Life returned to normal Sept. 25 around the Alta-Aurelia School District and in the city of Aurelia, after actions were taken to contain ammonia in Aurelia, a town of about 1,800 population.

At about 10 a.m., Sept. 24, officials learned that an ammonia gas leak had occurred at First Cooperative Association (FCA) property off Highway 7.

“We had buses at the school evacuating students in 15 minutes and took them to the gym in Alta. The emergency plan worked well,” said Alta-Aurelia School Superintendent Lynn Evans.
