Patton wins second state title, Alta-Aurelia takes home fourth

Alta-Aurelia golfer Annika Patton closed out her high school career by earning her second girls’ golf individual championship as she won the Class 1A title May 29 at Marshalltown.

Patton recorded a second-day par score of 70 to finish at 148, six shots better than Sammi Jahde of CAM. Patton also won the state title as a sophomore.

The Warriors, making their ninth straight trip to the state girls’ golf tournament, finished fourth with 757 strokes, seven shy of third place East Buchanan. Bishop Garrigan won the team title with a 727, to beat Akron-Westfield’s 742.

Patton had some work to do in the final holes as Jahde, who shot a 77 the first day, was on pace for a 70 but added seven shots to that mark.

“I’ve been motivated since I finished in third place last year. I had great support from my teammates,” said Patton.
