Students' Washington, D.C., Chicago trips win approval

By a split vote, the Alta-Aurelia School Board approved a three-grade trip to Washington, D.C., in 2020.

The vote at the Jan. 14 board meeting was five to two. Board members in favor were Brad Rohwer, Jon Turnquist, Nicky Sleezer, Jen Kaskey and Katie Meyer. Jodi Theisen and Gigi Nelson voted against.

It was one of two student trips that the school board considered; the other granted approval for a music department trip to Chicago, Ill.

Washington, D.C., trip organizer Travis Sommenberg was at the December board meeting and explained this is usually an every-third-year trip, and multiple schools may participate.
