Supervisors set budget public hearing

The public hearing for the fiscal year 2020 budget, a response to the fiscal year 2018 audit and a personnel item were handled by Cherokee County supervisors Feb. 12.

Supervisors set March 5 at 9 a.m. at the Cherokee County Courthouse as the date and place for the  public hearing for the Cherokee County fiscal year 2020 budget. The next fiscal year is July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2020.

The proposed tax rates per $1,000 of taxable valuation are 4.52683 for urban and 7.9783 for rural.

Proposed property tax levies by type are:  county-wide levies, $4,237,586; rural-only levies $3,336,290; Tax Increment Fund Revenues, $205,000, and utility-replacement excise tax, $223,378. The ending fund balance as of June 30, 2020, is $8,423,902.
