Tax rate for aviation authority approved

The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session for the final time of 2017 on Dec. 26.

Supervisors approved an amendment regarding an agreement originally set in 2004  between the county and the City of Cherokee regarding the annual tax levy rate to help support the Cherokee Aviation Authority, which oversees the Cherokee airport.

Supervisors voted to set the fiscal year 2018-19 rate not to exceed $0.15 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. No rate is set beyond 2019.

An amendment through fiscal year 2028-29 was approved. The county and city shall assess no less than $0.06 per $1,000 of assessed valuation and no more than $0.18 per $1,000 of assessed valuation upon all taxable property within such municipality.

The supervisors met Jan. 2 for their annual reorganizational meeting.
