Two years, two thrillers for A-A boys’ hoops

It was another district semifinal thriller for Alta-Aurelia as the Warriors won in thrilling fashion over Pocahontas Area 74-73 at Storm Lake Feb. 20  to advance to subsstate final. Last year, the Warriors ousted Hinton in the same round.

A-A needed two free throws from Tyler Hanks with 3.1 seconds left to survive a 16-8 run  by the Indians to finish the game. Hanks was an 82 percent free-throw shooter, the top percentage on the squad and made two-of-three in the final five seconds.

Game-high leading scorer Jace Davidson’s 40-footer banked in as the buzzer sounded so all three of Hanks’ free throws were needed. Alex Snyder led the Warriors on offense with six three-pointers for 24 points while Kruger tallied 22, including a trey. Kruger led the team with nine rebounds. Hanks ended with eight points.
