Warriors finish thriller with win

A mixed bag was the best way to describe the late season for Alta-Aurelia boys’ basketball team.

Two clutch free-throws made by Aric Stephan in the final 10 seconds gave the Alta-Aurelia boys’ basketball team a four-point lead against Newell-Fonda and the Warriors held on for a 61-60 thriller in Twin Lakes Conference play Feb. 1 at N-F.

The Warriors’ final multiple games week of the regular season also included, however, a 56-44 setback to East Sac County in a TLC game Feb. 4. A 14-2 deficit after one quarter was too much to overcome.

The Warriors fell to OABCIG, 64-59, Feb. 5 for a 13-7 record.

Against N-F, Stephan was four four five from the free-throw line. The home Mustangs had to foul to force stoppage of play three times before Stephan got to the free-throw line with 2.2 seconds left. The Warriors’ leading scorer with 20 points swished the first but missed the second.

The Warriors got 13 points from Anthony Krier, with his biggest hoop coming at the two-minute mark for a 54-50 lead.
