Weiland plans first Veterans Day in charge of Cherokee County VA

Gerald “Jerry” Weiland, Cherokee County Veterans Affairs interim service officer, will be on hand at the HyVee Veterans’ Day celebration in Cherokee from 6 to 9 am., Saturday, Nov. 11. He will be on hand to answer questions veterans may have, or take their concerns and get further information.

Weiland, of Aurelia, served in the Army from 1987 to 2014 and retired as a Sergeant First Class. He had two deployments in Operation Iraqi Freedom, one with the 482nd Transportation Company. He officially retired March 31, 2014. “I was in charge of getting parts for vehicles of two battalions. I got the job because I did not take ‘no’ very well; I saw it as a challenge,” said Weiland.
